Reflect on the Good
Through the news and social media, we receive information that magnifies the challenges we face, the lives we cannot live, and the people we have lost. It draws our mind to negativity and prevents us from escaping thoughts that don’t positively feed our soul.
Over the past few weeks, I have slowly found myself turning off the news to block the sadness that we are experiencing in our world. But before I do, I acknowledge those that are hurting with a word of support. I know it is not easy for them to forget a loved one who has passed or is in treatment. Their time to grieve and feel their emotions is critical for their healing and must be respected.
It is hard to know what to do under these peculiar circumstances we find ourselves in today. COVID-19 is testing our resilience as a people, as a community, as a nation and a world. Are we strong enough to recognize when we must accept our vulnerability and cautious enough to do what’s necessary to prevent the disease from spreading? Can we live in confined spaces with limited freedom to come and go freely? Are we determined enough to get to a place of new realities and accept the things we cannot change?
Each of us may have different answers to those questions and even more questions. Before responding, it is essential to reflect on the good in your life. Know that wherever you are under whatever circumstances, there is good. Make it a priority to search for it and keep it at the center of your thoughts and prayers.
